Mevlana Rumi…

Mevlana Rumi

The minute I heard my first love story,
I started looking for you,
not knowing how blind that was.

Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere,
they’re in each other all along.

When I was first learning about Islam, I also learned about Sufism as a special part of Islam, including one of the great Sufi masters, Rumi. I found out later that he is actually Turkish! I have come to love Rumi’s writings, especially his short poems and quotes. This is one of my favorite. I will post more periodically.

If you like Rumi, you should read the novel “The 40 Rules of Love” by Elif Shafak! It’s a beautiful story filled with lots of Sufi wisdom.

I was introduced to Rumi by my teacher of a mindfulness meditation class I attended about two years ago. It seems that every passage that I read speaks to me in some way. One of my favorites is called “The Guesthouse” that really inspires me to be open to all that comes in life. After all, Allah has a plan for us and no matter what comes our way, it is from him. Maybe you know that particular piece. If not I’d be happy to share it with you.
